A New Project

Last night I was doing my usual banter with South African author Wogan May when he asked an interesting question. It’s a little too early in the morning for me to remember it exactly, but to paraphrase, he basically said, “You know what would be cool? If we could do a collaborative book.”

So, thus, a new writing project was born. But not just an old project, no, not with us at the helm of an idea.

We’re not using the old fashion style of paper, pencils and pens.

We’re not even going to be using the likes of Microsoft Word either.

We’ll be using a three-way combo of googleTalk, googleDocs and Skype. Once done with the novel’s post work, we’ll be self-publishing on through the highly-acclaimed internet based publishing house Lulu.

We think this is the first novel to be developed, written and published completely by way of internet.

So there you have it.

Right now we’re developing the plot through googleDocs. Make sure to pay attention to my youtube channel, so I’ll start updating it as soon as possible.

Cheers,

Jared

  1. To quote the log:

me: I just had a horribly random idea.I think I should kill it, lol
    Jared: kill what?
    me: the idea
    Jared: well, what was it?
    me: Let me see…
me: I was going to ask “Why not write and publish a novel together – starting from scratch, using everything we know, but copying nothing we’ve already written”
me: then i realised how crazy it was
    Jared: why not?

And that was the birth of the yet-unnamed project. As Jared said, we’ll be using totally online technologies. We will publish online. We will sell online. This whole thing will be proof that:

    1. It’s possible to write a book online without ever meeting the other author in person.
    2. It’s possible to write a book with no special software except what you can get for free, online.
    3. Google is awesome.
    4. We’re crazy, and
    5. We love it.

So. As soon as we have our basic plot and world nailed down, we’ll probably be registering a joint blog for the book progress (my idea. Jared knows nothing until he reads this).

    Stay t00ned.
