Sorry everyone.

That’s no Moon! It’s a Space Station (sort of)!
When I was a kid, I was really into everything astronomy. Over time, I lost that fire within me, but tonight, something resparked that.
Comet 17/P Holmes.
I was browsing wikipedia for info for a paper I’m writing tomorrow, and I spotted an article on the comet and upon reading “visible to the naked eye”, I ran out with a pair of binoculars. Looking into the low Northeast sky, I found it after ten or so minutes of searching. I dragged my parents out, and both found it immediately within the binoculars.
Then, I decided to take my PD-150 (a professional level miniDV camera) out and take a few snap shots. I ended up taking video since the shutter speed was super low (1/4th of a second, the photo mode only went as low as 1/60th of a second) and captured the photos from frames in the video.
So, ladies and gentleman, here’s one of the photos I took:
17/P Holmes can be viewed anywhere in the world.
More info can be found by clicking here.
Happy viewing.

Socal is Burning Pt. 2
Today there were at least 18 individual wildfires burning. A few have reached full containment, and several are within the 10%-20% containment range. But the overwhelming majority are at the same level of 0% containment.
I thought yesterday was pretty bad with all the smoke and ash filling up over half of the sky. I was dead wrong about today not getting any worse like I had thought.
Today, the entire sky was filled with smoke, and ash was coming down like sprinkling rain. I’m a former asthmatic (destroyed it courtesy of running/cycling), so my concern is whether ash will begin to fall even thicker tomorrow. It’s already at the point where I’m feeling terrible anytime I go outside.
Then again, I can only imagine how it feels to be any of those people who have lost their homes. I can’t believe over a thousand homes have been lost. And they saying that fire in San Diego is so powerful, that it may burn till it reaches the ocean.
These fires are unlike anything we have ever seen before.

p.s. The closest fire is about 30 miles away from where I live.
Untitled
Ah yes. It’s that time of year when it all begins to get into gear. Everything is falling into its perfect place, and I’m as happy as can be. With the weight of needing the Angels to win the AL West off of my shoulders, I can sit down and have some good ol’ Jared time.
That means a lot of writing.
Lately, things haven’t been going well. Call it a combo of lack of focus, writers block and zero inspiration. A triple threat. But alas, a savior always seems to make it’s way, and this time it’s in the form of music.
I mentioned the band “Godspeed You! Black Emperor” before, as to how beautiful their music was.
Right now I’m really into their song “Terrible Canyons of Static”, especially the first 4 and half minutes. It’s so hauntingly pure as it twists up and down. Music like this needs to be spread to everyone.
When I listen to their music it’s like I’m back in my early days of writing. That same feeling of elation is there, which seems to have burnt out slightly nowadays. I’m glad to say that I’m slowly getting that feeling back, along with anticipation of new experiences as I write.
“Adrenaline Writers” is coming next.
